My off-the-cuff response is probably yes. You should read IRS> review my physical problems and condo layout and to recommend > changes to the layout which included remodeling the bathroom, > what kind of bed to get, placement of furniture, assistive > devices and so forth. An HTML version of Pub 502 is at http://www.irs.gov/publications/p502/index.html After-the-planning is almost always suboptimal. You demonstrated common sense by having someone plan your condo. You should have involved your physicians just in case an IRS auditor wants you to prove medical necessity. If you have a Flexible Spending Account, read their conditions for reimbursement, and, if possible, get reimbursement from them rather than taking a Schedule A Medical Deduction. Someone with $40,000 AGI does not get a Sched A. deduction until their expenses exceed $3,000. But you effectively get the deduction if you have a FSA. | I paid an occupational therapy services company this week to review my physical problems and condo layout and to recommend changes to the layout which included remodeling the bathroom, what kind of bed to get, placement of furniture, assistive devices and so forth. The company's service was not prescribed by a physician. I needed this input because of worsening health problems. Is it deductible?
