Moreover if you used Form 8888 to allocate refunds to more than one
account, the IRS ignored all direct deposit info.

This especially impacted clients with RALs, since RALs typically
allocate some of the refund to the bank, some to the preparer, some to
any IRA or annuity account the clieent might have been sold, and if
anything is left over, to the taxpayer's credit card or checking/savings
account.

Well, that was the way it was SUPPOSED to work of course. But, As
Rabbie Burns said, something like.. "the best laid plans of mice and
men, aft gang awry." (Burns being Scottish, for some reason, here at
happy hour, I was reminded of him.)

So then, IF a taxpayer had closed out the bank account to which the
refund had been deposited, IRS reverted to sending a paper stimulating
check.

Not true. If your 2007 tax return had direct deposit information on it, the
stimulus check was direct deposited into that same account. If it did not
have direct deposit information, they sent a paper check.

Stimulus checks were sent out and were not direct deposited even if
your refund was direct deposited.

Go to the IRS website at

https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/IRSer...ectLanguage=en

(or you can go to www.irs.gov and select the item "How much was my stimulus
payment")

Enter the requested information and it will tell you the amount of any
stimulus payment.

Go to www.irs.gov. They have a tool there for looking up the amount of your
stimulus payment.

Default 2008 Economic Stimulus Check

I am completing my 2008 tax return and there is a part at the end
regarding a tax credit if you did not receive you economic stimulus
check. I thought at first that I did not receive anything but then I
thought I might have. I should have received it by July and I would
suspect it would be a round number. I called my bank about deposits.
They do not have a record of payers but there was a deposit for $2500
in July. That seems a bit high for the ESC but I may have deposited
it with something else. Does anyone know of another I can see if I
received this check?

Many thanks in advance,
Peter.
