Your taxable income is for the year in which you were paid not the year in which you earned the income. -- ArtKamlet at a o l dot c o m Columbus OH K2PZH -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |

| I changed jobs last year. I recently (late) received my w-2's from my previous employer. I found that there was an extra amount of income reported than I actually received in the amount of one paycheck. The first check I received in 2008 was actually for the second pay period in December of 2007. The employer was counting this as 2008 income because it was paid in 2008. I don't think this is allowed, is it? I mean, don't you owe/pay taxes during the year in which the work was actually conducted? I can't seem to find the tax code to reference to find this answer. I want to be able to tell the employer to reissue W-2's that reflect the actual pay/tax during 2008. Please help! -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |
