On my Intel Mac, NOT USING WINDOWS, the Save and Save As menu items are
grayed out. The auto-save feature is there and checked. I do not know if
it actually functions as advertised. Save and Save As turn on when you
quit.

Obnoxious as it is, my pragmatic approach is to continue using the
interview method. That seems to work well. I have concluded that it will
take less effort to use the interview method rather than to force the
forms method to work. I have decided to cry UNCLE! If I run into
significant problems with the interview method,I will post again.

Not really sure why you couldn't save at will. First off, I've used Taxcut
for years and CTRL-S is always available for saving. Secondly, there is an
auto-save function that I usually set to 2 mins. and that saves it
automatically. If what you mean by 'quitting' is that you had to close the
form to access the File/Save options in the top tool bar, that doesn't mean
you have to quit at that point.

My gripe with them this year is that they moved form 4136 to the Business
software while they still sell the Premium Home & Business software without
that form. A call into Taxcut will only elicit the comment 'Taxcut P.H.&B no
longer supports that form.'

Never used it so this is wag'ing of course, but what I have used some of
the TaxAct I'd expect to be able to switch back and forth from one view
to the other.

That is exactly what I expected; but it was not to be. That was what my
second post on the subject was about, In the forms method Save or Save
As are just not available (unless someone shows me how) until you Quit.

In the interview method, Save and Save As always seem to be available.

At first I wanted to get TaxAct, but no Macintosh version was available
for download. I have a Mac using the Intel chip set. If TaxAct uses
native code rather than Windows, it should not be difficult to at Intel
Mac capability.

Although I could run Windows on my Nac, I do not want to get that
involve with Windows at this time.

Why could you not save? Click on File --> Save As don't work for you?

TaxAct is very accommodating of the Forms method of preparing a
return. I find the interview method much to time consuming and
cumbersome.

Default TaxCut is not as bad as I thought

I posted recently complaining about TaxCut. Although I am not ready to
say that it is great, some of its problems were overcome.

My problems seem to have occurred when I tried to avoid using the
interview method by going directly to the forms. From the forms, I found
navigation difficult. I could not save until I quit TaxCut. Forms seem
to have disappeared for no apparent reason.

In frustration, I went to the interview method. Ot was not so bad. Save
and Save As seemed to be available at any time within the interview.

I guess that most people use the interview method and that is why most
attention is devoted to develop that aspect of the application.

For now, I am giving up fighting through the forms method.
