I have always (for 45 years) deducted that type of expense as a cost
of buying / hold/selling the stock certificates and neer been disputed.

Actually, it was part of the cost of liquidating the stock, but your
point still remains - maybe it can be deducted from the proceeds
same as a commission would be, but the first responder seemed
pretty sure not.

Isn't it part of the cost of acquiring the stock?

That's what I wanted to know (or didn't want to know). Thanks ...

This fee would be deductible in each year (not combined) it was
incurred as a misc. itemized deduction subject to the 2%.

this is also a misc. itemized deduction subject to the 2%

Default add these things to securities' basis ?

I have the following expenses related to some investments I sold:

-account maintenance fee for a brokerage account (the account is new
closed,
but I held the sold mutual funds there awhile): $60 per year for
several years

-DHL service for paperwork for founders stock of a startup: $37

My question is, can I add these amounts to the cost basis for the
liquidated securities ?

Yes, I realize that I can probably deduct them on Schedule A, but it's
subject to the
2% AGI exclusion, so that doesn't really help.

Thanks, John
