Line 43 tells you to subtract (not add) the entry on Line 42 ($3500) from Line 41 to arrive at Taxable Income. At this point you must go to page 36 (it tells you this) of the instructions to determine how to calculate your tax. You can obtain the instructions at: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040.pdf -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |

| I am bugged on my 1040 on line 44, where the IRS wants says "Tax" and explains as good as nothing. I figured my income after standard deduction with USD 14132 on line 41. Then I have to add USD 3500 to it on line 42? That makes USD 17245. On line 44, I should enter the tax but I can't because I find no fitting tax table. I figured USD 2977 self-employment taxes, which I have to add apparently to the other taxes but I don't know how to figure the other taxes. Can you give me an advice? IRS phone line is always busy. Best wishes, -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |
