It's a unreimbursed employee expense subject to a 2% of AGI floor.

To be candid, on the surface it's awfully cheap of a company to require
out-of-town employees to pay their own way for required meetings.

Default employee business miles

Employee works and lives in Springfield MA. He has an office in
Springfield, not a home office. One day a week he travels to Boston -
90 miles - for business. He is not reimbursed for it. His is
reimbursed for other client travel but not this trip to other company
office for required meetings. His company has office in Springfield
and Boston. So, 80% of time is in Springfield ares, thus making this
his tax home I think. Can he deduct the Boston trips he makes once a
week?
