You have good instincts.

Current guidelines for evaluating offers are in Chapter 8 of Part 5 of the
Internal Revenue Manual:

Default Tax Debt Relief? Legit info only plz...

I am looking for reliable information on tax debt relief programs,
resources, etc. I have a feeling alot of these companies that
advertise are scams, and that it's not quite as easy to "settle for
less" as they make it seem.

I researched offers in compromise a few years ago and came up with the
impression that if you had assets and were still in business you
basically wouldn't qualify because you had earning potential to repay
- even at a low rate per month, or because they could lien your land
or something.

Things may have changed or may be changing because of the bailout,
etc. I'd like a legitimate trustworthy source of information.

Thanks for any assistance.
