The first choice. You probably did nothing wrong. If you had a tax
benefit from deducting the state income tax paid in 2007, then the
refund is often partly or fully taxable for 2008. See IRS Pub 525 and
Form 1040 worksheet.

Default 1099G - California

Hi,

I received a 1099G form that shows a dollar amount in box 2, "State
income tax refunds, credits, or offsets."

When I google 1099G it says this, "You received a Form 1099-G because it
appears you claimed state income tax payments as an itemized deduction
on Schedule A of your Federal Income Tax Return for the tax year listed
in Box 3 and received a refund, credit, or offset of $10.00 or more from
your California Personal Income Tax Return."

My question is, does this basically mean I just filled out the Schedule
A Form 1040 OR did I do something wrong?

thanks!
