(As you note, you were the co-borrower, that seems a settled matter.) IRS Pub 17 has an excellent discussion with charts which defines the income limits and maximum deductions which apply (and it can be found on pages 133-134). This should be accessible at http://www.irs.gov, and then choose Publications, and select the HTML option for reading on line.
