Default Campaign Costs

An individual is running for the local school board. Are any of the
out-of-pocket expenses of campaigning and running for office
deductible? And, if so, how and where?

This position pays a whopping $20,000 a year. Assuming she wins the
election, and takes office in December, are any job related costs
deductible? Are these treated as employee expenses would be for any
job?
