This is true for any of the scenarios you bring up related to age (under or over 17), income, or filing your own return. The point is clear: You are a DEPENDENT and, by definition, you are NOT ELIGIBLE. If you don't like that, take it up with your congressperson. | I am looking for an answer to the follwoing question. Can an individual, who is claimed as a dependent on his/her parents’ tax returns, eligible to receive economic stimulus rebate if he/she files a separate income tax? The answer I am looking for addresses a few variations to the above scenario: i. The individual is under the age of 17 with no qualifying income. ii. The individual is over the age of 17 with no qualifying income. iii. The individual is over the age of 17 with a qualifying income of or more than $3000. Would you please provide link to appropriate authority to back up the answer. Thank you very much. -J ========================================= MODERATOR'S COMMENT: See about 3/4 of the way down on this FAQ about anyone who can be claimed as a dependent not being eligible for the rebate http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...179181,00.html -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |
