No.

See IRS Pub 521. "You can include any lodging expenses you had in the
area of your former home within one day after you could no longer live
in your former home because your furniture had been moved."

Lodging for your direct travel from old to new home is also deductible.

Default claiming rental as moving expences

I moved from NC to TN in Aug 07.
While living in TN, I had my house in NC on sale, and lived in a rented
house in TN from Aug 07 until April 08 ( when I bought another house in TN
and sold the one in NC).
1) Can I claim the rented house in TN [as well as hotels before moving into
the house] as temporary moving accomadations, or is there a time limit on
that (during the actual duration of the move, [how is that defined])? We
lived in a bare apartment for about a month because we wanted to show the
house as occupied while it was listed with a Real Estate agent.
2) Given that my renting this house crossed the yearly boundary, can I
claim from Jan to April as temp living quarters when filing my 2008 return
next year.
3) BTW, are there any advantages to setting the date of move to TN as early
as possible, since there are no income taxes in TN? I say that because my
wife & daughter were not working and was living in TN (with friends) about a
month earlier?
