Apparently I have to file a NYS but not a Federal return. Geez.

But thanks for your help.

To determine whether you have to file a New York State Tax
return, use the online questionnaire at the following link.
To start the questionnaire, click the button that says "Do I
Have to File?"

http://www.tax.state.ny.us/pit/which...le/default.htm

By the way, your statement about federal filing requirements
is not correct. Whether you have to file a federal tax
return depends not only on your total income, but also on
your filing status, age, whether or not you are a dependent,
the type of income you have, and other factors. See "Do You
Have To File?" on pages 6 & 7 of the IRS instructions for
Form 1040, or "Who Must File" on pages 2 - 4 of IRS
Publication 501.

Default Minimum income for NYS filing...

I saw a post that incomes, excluding SS, didn't have to file federal tax
returns under $10,000. How about in New York? Presumably it is the same,
but you never know.
