| I am one of many people who received the mysterious 1099 from the IRS with A statement of Interest Paid - in my case $23. After some investigation, the interest turns out to be for the interest portion of the Federal Telephone Excise Tax refund I received in 2007. My question is: does this interest get reported in Box 1 or Box 3? I find it quote interesting that a 1099-INT sent out by the IRS (or perhaps for them by a private contractor) does not include the standard information I see on all the other Forms 1099-INT I receive, such as the box number for the various amounts reported, or even the fact that this is a 1099-INT. It states only "1099". Considering the small amount of this interest, my question is rather academic, but I would still like to know the right answer. -- Vic Roberts Replace xxx with vdr in e-mail address. -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |
