A court case......Someone may pop up the citation.

That is what the judge based his decision on. Two families under one roof
operate as - two families - if they act like - two families. The adults
sleep in separate rooms and do not co-mingle any funds and very little
activities........and certainly don't "badda bing - badda boom"

Come to think of it..........

There's some late-night talk show fodder right there.

Where is this rule of a conjugal bed?

Just to address this issue: It's a couple of weeks too late to do that and
save on the 2007 tax returns.

I am both the resident proponent for shacking up
and the resident authority on "Living in Sin for
Fun and Profit."

The detailed answer is you can have multiple HoH's
in a single family building UNLESS there is a
conjugal bed. The simple answer based on the facts
and circumstances you presented is NO - You get to
choose who files HoH and who files single. Run the
numbers and see if it makes economic sense to get
married.

Before you get married, there is your lover's
mother who speaks well of you and to you. After
you get married, .....

In my next life, I will shack up with orphans!

Whichever one of you paid slightly more than half, even if
it's only a dollar more, can file as head of household. The
other must file as single.

It would appear this is onehousehold, not multiple households.

At most, only one of you could provide more than half the costs
of maintaining the household.

Default Head of Household Status

Hi,

My fiancee and I moved in together in January 2007. We each have
have one qualifying child from previous marriages and have been filing
as heads of household through 2006. Given that we lived together for
the entire year, can we both file as head of household for 2007?
Everything seems clear except for the "providing over 1/2 of the cost
of maintaining a home" provision. We both contribute approximately 50%
for the household expenses. We have gotten some conflicting advice
from some professional preparers and we are hoping to find a
definitive answer. Thanks in advance for your help.
