| Thanks for the info! I too got a mysterious 1099 from the IRS today in the amount of $12.00. You have saved me a lot of trouble and headache because I don't think I would have been able to figure that out or remember it on my own! C I'm including the text from the 1099 to help others find this thread: "This information is being furnished to the appropriate department of Internal Revenue Service. The amount of interest paid or credited to you in the calendar year shown is on an overpayment of federal tax. This amount may represent interest on an overpayment for more than one year, or more than one kind of tax. It may have been paid with your tax refund or by separate check; or part or all may have been applied against other taxes you owed. If you are required to file a tax return, report this interest as income on your return." You can imagine my confusion after reading that sweeping generalization! -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |

| I got the same form. Luckily, I found this thread, or I would have been calling the IRS and talking to them today. They should have included a note to let the umpteen million Americans who are getting these know that this is to give them part of their wrongly-withheld excise tax back. I kept all my phone statements and got back every cent I paid plus interest. Makes sense now. All the other posts I have read indicate that a 1099 from the IRS is usually for monies received from amended returns (1040X). I have filed no amended returns, so I was freaking out a bit. Because...... Interest was paid due to a certain business form since IRS interest rates varied during the look back time of the rebates. It was complicated. It was SO complicated, that I just gave up on it for my business. | I received a Form 1099 today that looks like it is from the IRS. The Form 1099 has an EIN of 38-1798424 and claims Interest of $23.00 and states Calendar 2007. Based on a web search there was a discussion about these forms in this group back in 2003. At that time the Form 1099 was attributed to interest that the IRS paid due to delayed refunds. I did received Federal Income Tax refund in 2007 for tax year 2006. However, the amount of the refund received from the IRS was exactly the same as the amount of the refund I calculated on my 2006 Form 1040. If my refund was not increased, how was I supposed to have received this $23.00 "interest" from the IRS? -- Vic Roberts Replace xxx with vdr in e-mail address.
