Seven years sounds a tad early for most unclaimed property (but some states it may be that early). I'd stay after the company. Also check with the Pension Benefits Guaranty Corporation. http://www.pbgc.gov/ It's a government agency - despite it's name - and they can help you unshuffle what happened. It's possible the plan balances may have been transferred to them. If you have ~any~ paperwork on the old plan, that'll help. I've noticed that people toss the term "401K" around for all manner of plans, like they say "coke" for all manner of carbonated soft drink. It'd be really helpful if you had some documentation to better define the type of plan, possible balances, etc. -- Paul A. | My husband had a 401K that he left with a company in Texas about 7 years ago. While I know that was negligent on our part, at this time, we are just trying to locate it to roll it over. It was with Scudder Investments until 2002 at which time all active employees' plans were rolled over to Fidelity, but the co. told us they have no record of an account with his name on it with Fidelity. The lady I talked to at the co. (which has merged twice since then) told me that she recalls that the non-active employee plans were "left with Scudder". She says she has no other information to give me. Scudder, of course, has no record of us at all. I have been on all of the "free" database search engines for unclaimed property through the state - does anyone have any other ideas for me? I read somewhere that these are often transferred over to an IRA- but if that was true in our case, where would I look for that? Thanks! -- << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2007) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |
