The last year for five year averaging was 1999. Ten year lump sum averaging
is still available for taxpayers born before 1936. (The date remains the
same; the age requirement goes up by one year every year.)

Plus paying taxes on retirement acount withdrawals in some situations.
Five years for lump sums older than age 55.
Two years for Roth conversions in 2010.
Might be some other lurkers.

Eliminated by the Tax Reform Act of 1986. Reinstated sometime after that
for some farmers and fishermen.

Default What happened to income averaging?

I made one inquiry which indicated that "income averaging"
is no longer an option for normal folks -- that perhaps it
is an option for certain sectors like farmers.

Can someone here confirm that this has indeed changed? Seems
like in the 80's I used that option once. Thanks.
