For example, misc.invest.financial-plan has a "fast approval" process and co-moderators (including past m.t.m. contributor Ed Zollars) that seems to work very well and dramatically cuts down on turn-around time. While it is sometimes instructive to see multiple independent replies to a question, I often wonder if people would save some precious time if they could see that the answer they are about to give has already been given. As far as I can determine, the software used is STUMP Robomoderator Program (www.algebra.com/~ichudov/stump/) and dozens if not hundreds of Usenet groups appear to use it successfully. It is Unix-based (which Dick and I are both fans of!) and uses to PGP to help prevent spoofing, which I know is a concern. -Mark Bole << ------------------------------------------------------- > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ------------------------------------------------------- > |

You might think of looking into borrowing the software used by uk.legal.moderated. It creates a whitelist of people who are pre- approved, but scans them for target words or phrased that might not be appropriate and sends those posts for moderation. It also allows for multiple moderators, cutting down on the time required of any single person. And with several hands, it cuts down on the time any indivdual post waits before being moderated. It may have other features that I'm unaware of or can't think of at the moment. On the other hand I've seen forums on private news servers that can be simultaneously accessed via the web. | I am leaving for Richmond in about two hours to judge at the Dominion Cup beer competition and will return tomorrow evening (Saturday, 14 July 2007). After talking about it for several years, I am going to Australia - 28 November 2007 through 13 December 2007)! Also there are massive changes being planned for mtm before I leave for OZ. Any and all constructive ideas will be appreciated. Think outside the box!
