I have collegues in Finland, France and Britain. Unless they are super scientists, engineers etc. who can make handsome incomes in hightech companies, after a stint here in the US most prefer to go back. As for my taxes: I paid approximately 28% of my income in taxes last year. Yet I cannot afford to buy a home. Yet I am concerned about my retirement, because my savings 30 years after graduating from college is only 7 times my current annual salary. The statistics say I am expected to live 30 more years on that. That is, only on 23% of my current salary, while my healthcare expenses will keep climbing up. Find a job that doesn't offer employees a tax deferred 401> yet we get taxed when we want to save more... or any other retirement plan. Then you can put money into an IRA and take a deduction. Alternatively, you can keep your current job with its 401 and take any extra cash you have and save it (yes, I said save it) in a regular taxable account at any bank or in the stock market. Frankly, I am becoming somewhat radicalized by people who complain that the relatively generous tax breaks they get aren't good enough and that they should get more, more, more. Or maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet this morning.
