I believe the J-1 visa has an 18-month total time
limitation. Under those circumstances, and provided that
you do not intend to remain in Illinois indefinitely, you
would be a nonresident of Illinois because you are there for
a temporary purpose.

Your IL income is your earnings in Illinois, plus any income
from real or tangible personal property located in Illinois.
Income from intangibles such as interest, dividends, etc.
would not be Illinois source income.

Default Illinois resident/non resident and schedule NR

I am J1 from Pakistan and came USA first time on 5th Aug
2006 and since then I am here at Chicago, Illinois.

I just want to know if I would be a non resident, resident
or part year resident for state tax return. and because if I
need to file schedule NR then please advise me whats the
meaning of the illinois column.

Thanks
REAZ
