Security, you might want to make sure the state wages are correctly entered on the state return. They may not be the same as federal wages in box one. Someone lied. It's exactly what it says it is.> no Social Security Benefits are listed but there is Box 14 > Code (C) which is listed as Pre-Tax Retirement > Contributions. Someone told me this is Social Security. - quote - > I'm doing this return for my elderly father in-law.
I'm not sure where you're thinking of putting it on the> Any idea if this should be listed as Social Security? return, but it doesn't go anywhere on the Federal return. Check the state instructions to see if there's an adjustment there. For example, in Kansas state employees' retirement contributions are not taxed at the Federal level but are added to Federal AGI for state tax computation. -- Phil Marti Clarksburg, MD << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

It's not. It's a contributory state pension. Your father> no Social Security Benefits are listed but there is Box 14 > Code (C) which is listed as Pre-Tax Retirement > Contributions. No, it shouldn't.-- Rich Carreiro rlcarr[at]animato.arlington.ma.us << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| Hi, I have a W-2 from the state of Massachusetts and on the W-2 no Social Security Benefits are listed but there is Box 14 Code (C) which is listed as Pre-Tax Retirement Contributions. Someone told me this is Social Security. I'm doing this return for my elderly father in-law. Any idea if this should be listed as Social Security? Thanks, BobB << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
