I'll speculate that it may be a stock dividend. That is a dividend only paid in shares of stock. If that is the case, you have to adjust your basis accordingly. Your CPA/tax advisor should be able to help you with these calcualtions. ___________________________________ <<< Benjamin Yazersky, CPA [NJ & NY] > > -----> real address on hobokeni or hobokenx <----- << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| I would appreciate any information on the following situation. I have owned shares of a company for 10 years. In the past 5 years, the company has paid quarterly dividends, along with a special yearly dividend of company stock. My question is: I have sold all shares, and would like to know how to incorporate the special dividend when I figure out the capital gain on this stock. Thank you for your time. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
