Since you are a sole proprietor, you could get a medical insurance policy to cover you and your husband, and deduct the entire cost using the Self-Employed Health Insurance Deduction, limited only by the net profit from your business. The net cost could end up being less than what you are paying for medical expenses, and would protect you in the event of a catastrophic illness or injury. You can read the details of this deduction in IRS Publication 535 at the following link. http://www.irs.gov/publications/p535/ch07.html#d0e5552 Also see conclusion number 1 at the top of page 2 of the PDF at the following link, regarding taking this deduction for insurance that you simply buy in your own name. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-wd/0524001.pdf Bob Sandler << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
