Another answered the casualty loss deduction, but I'd
question that if it were really storm-caused structural
damage that insurance shouldn't have taken up a larger chunk
of it. Unless, of course, you were either un- (which
doesn't seem right as mentioned deductible) or under-
insured. Unless understand reason for any claim being
refused and comfortable with the reason(s) therefore, would
seem worth pursuing.

Casualty losses are a Schedule A itemized deduction. See
Form 4865. If you're in a federal disaster area, also see
Publication 547.

Default Storm damage

During Nov/Dec ice storm my sun room sustained major damage.
My associations inspector failed the roof and siding.
Structural damage was found and the sun room and a storage
room below it had to be taken down. It was replaced by a
deck and storage room. My insurance covered none of it
except one shingle, which was below my deductible. Will I be
able to claim any of this on my taxes?
