Were I a news server, I would propogate sporadic cancels to
all my feeding servers. It can't hurt. If there's a
cancel-flood, shut it off.

That is correct. I don't know of any news server that will
still honor cancelations. There are still plenty anti-social
posters though. Another moderated group has one who forges
the headers to bypass the moderator. It only takes one bad
apple to ruin it for the rest of us.

I received a cancellation request in the ng submissions
today. It is now near impossible to cancel posts that are
on news servers because the news servers operators rarely
accept cancellations. We have hackers and spammers to thank
for that.

Off the top of my head, I think it was around 1999 when some
miscreant submitted several thousand cancellations to wipe
out one of the .alt newsgroups in which he was on the short
end of a flame war.
