What makes you think that just because this is an extra-curricular activity sponsored by the school, it is a "charitable" activity? << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| This involves driving to extra-curricular events for (public) school. I'm trying to figure out how different sets of facts affect what is or is not deductible for mileage. Set #1: We drive our child to an extra-curricular event. My Guess: This would not qualify as charity mileage, since it is for the benefit of our child. Set #2: We drive our child and other team/club members to an event. My Question: Does addition of other children make the mileage deductible as supporting the club in general? Would the deduction need to be pro-rated? << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
