Closer to April there are price wars.
Plus I observe some brokerages offer free online
tax spftware for account holders. (Though I dont
trust the security of online preparation.)

TaxAct does not accept data from Quicken or Microsoft Money.
TaxCut and TurboTax do. That may not be an issue with you.

And the other half had problems? :-)

I used the preparer's version of TaxAct last year to prepare
about 500 returns, half were E-filed with no problems.

I've used TaxAct for years and e-filed with it the last two.
No problems yet.

I have used TaxAct for a number of years, not the free
version, but the reasonably priced paid version. This is
not the proper place to discuss tax software. If you join
the Yahoo Group "TaxActors" you will find a robust
discussion of the Tax Act software.

Default 2006 Tax Software - price structuring

At least as far as TaxCut is concerned, it looks like the
cheapest is $29.95 (but, without e-filing). Cheapest
package with e-filing included is $59.95. Looks like the
prices have really increased.

I tried out the free TaxAct last year as a backup program
(didn't e-file with it). Gave me the same answers as
TaxCut. Has anybody had any issues with it, especially the
e-file?
