So the only deductions would be for travel that is above and beyond going to/from regular services. -- Paul Thomas, CPA paulthomascpapc[at]bellsouth.net << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| I have a question regarding what qualifies as charitable milage. My church has moved across town a significant distance from my home. I have recently taken a volunteer position and want to know what types of activities qualify as charitable use of my vehicle. The first one should be easy. Travel from the Church to a retirement home to visit the elderly, including a short church service in their recreation room seems it would be deductable at $0.14 per mile. What about travel from my home to the church to a volunteer meeting where our duties for the next week are assigned and we discuss ministry-related issues for the coming weeks? How about travel from my home to the church for the regular Sunday service on weeks in which I am performing duties during the service rather than simply attending? Or, is it like business miles, where commuting doesn't count? Thanks in advance.
