Usually all Turbo tax does is make a pretty return. Or what > should I do? do not know how to do taxes in the first place the tax program is only going to do what you tell it to do. You may or may not have checked a box somewhere and it did just what you told it to do. What you need to do if you are not going to hire a professional to do your taxes is put the numbers in and see what the tax is and then take the numbers out and see what it says. A Tax professional usually saves you more money than their fees. Usually an error on a TT return means input error.> last year, II just received a letter of "notice of proposed > assessment" from CA tax franchise board, saying that it has > made an adjustment to my CA itemized deductions for the > reason: > Base of the filesing status and deferal adjusted gross > income, it has reduced my itemized CA deductions. You should either pay the state what they're asking for or> should I do? take your returns to a human being to examine them. Software is useless if you don't know what the numbers on the return should be. -- Phil Marti Clarksburg, MD << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| I would appreciate information on this. I used TurboTax to file both federal and CA state income tax last year, II just received a letter of "notice of proposed assessment" from CA tax franchise board, saying that it has made an adjustment to my CA itemized deductions for the reason: Base of the filesing status and deferal adjusted gross income, it has reduced my itemized CA deductions. Also saying It has allowed the standard deductions because the allowable itemized deductions are less than the she standard deductions I need to pay more tax plus interest as indicated. My questions: 1) I just entered the turbotax with all the number and it came out with the tax, does it mean turbotax has errors? 2) Should I protest and explain my filing process? Or what should I do? Thanks Dan << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing was not intended or written to be used, > << nor can it used, for the purpose of avoiding penalties > << that may be imposed upon the taxpayer. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting posts > << to this newsgroup as well as our anti-spamming policy > << are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
