What do you guys carry by way > of errors / omissions insurance? Or do you even? proseries.com and choose the pay per return option. It is quite low. If you are going to e-file (which you can do through intuit) you will need to file a form with the irs to be an ERO. The form # is 8633. It can be downloaded from the irs.gov website. It is easier to e-file a return than have to copy and assemble all the forms along with the forms W-2, etc. I personally do not carry extra insurance, but I do have a rider on my homeowners ins. that covers what you might be worried about. I do not think that it is mandatory to e-file, yet! I personally will not take a client that will not e-file. I e-file all that I can, *if* they get it in here by Oct, 15th (are you listening Bert?) Bert is a client that is late every year. I filed his 2004 in May 2006! | I've worked as a tax preparer for several years for a national chain, and have, for various reasons, decided to try and open my own office this year. It won't be anything huge, if I get 20 returns this year to start I'll be very happy. For my own return, and for that of a few family and friends I've used TaxCut for the last 5 or 6 years. It's normally served me well, but some of the features that make it so user friendly for absolute "lay people" , make it somewhat annoying for me. AND, I guess HRBlock would get annoyed if they knew I was using their $30 version and preparing returns for compensation. I don't know how they would ever find out, but hey, you never know, and the last thing I want to get is a cease and desist letter form their lawyers. <G So, I guess my question is what software packages are available for paid preparers, keeping in mind that I expect to max out at 20 returns give or take a few? So, laying out the least amount of cash would be helpful. What do I have to do in order to be able to e-file for people? As a paid preparer am I REQUIRED to e-file? I know at the tax office last year, if the customer chose not to e-file, or if the return couldnt' be e-filed for whatever reason we had to have them sign a special form indicating that they didn't wan't to e-file, and keep it with our file copies of thier returns. Insurance is another question. What do you guys carry by way of errors / omissions insurance? Or do you even?
