If Schedule D transactions are the only thing changing (other
than the 1040X numbers), send only the corrected Schedule D
with the 1040X.

Your last sentence makes me think you may have received an
underreporter notice. If that's the case, make sure you
follow the instructions on it. The computers monitoring the
underreporter process won't immediately know that you've
filed an amended return if you just send it in.

Default ammended return

I just finished my ammended return and I owe $3100. I see
there is a box for explaining the reason for the new amount
and corrections I made.

Do I include my check to the IRS in with these papers when I
mail them all in? Or will I need to make payment to
somewhere else since this is an ammended return. It would
be easy if I could just put a check in with my files.

I had done my stocks wrong, so I took my schwab statements
and redid my trades. So I can send in the 1040x and the
print out of my tax pages from Taxcut. They shouldn't need
my stock statements as Schwab should have sent them a copy
which is how they know what I got.
