More evidence is better if you get audited. For online
payments, print out the page that invariably appears saying
something like "Print this page for your records."

I'm not a tax pro, just another small business owner. Like
you, I pay most of my bills online. As you said, when bills
are paid online there is no cancelled check - so the
question of keeping the check is moot. When I pay a bill
online I mark the date of payment and the bank's e-pay
number on the invoice or statement. I then keep the monthly
bank statement that lists all the transactions, including
each of the online transactions, with my other documents for
that month. For those few bills I pay with real checks I
also keep the check images that the bank sends with the
monthly statements.

Default small business accounting

I am a new small business owner.

Do I need to keep canceled checks with invoices? I usually
pay online and don't have canceled checks. Or if I used
credit card, do I need to keep credit card statements with
invoices? I DO keep all invoices and receipts. Just curious
whether I have to keep canceled checks. I rather not keep
them since I have invoices and receipts.

thanks
