Send what you can of that along with the voucher. Do the same again (saving money) and in about two more months you will receive another bill. Try you best to send in the remainder at that time. If you can't they will call you down and have you start make monthly payments. If that is the case, do not promise a nickle more than you *know* you can send them. If you default on the payment promise....... Do I have time to get > things straightened out? your return yet. 1. If you can pay it within about three months, file the return, send in 1/3 of it and when bill comes, send another third. By this time they MAy get an idea you're short, and send you one more letter. Pay up. 2. If this will be a stretch, file a "plea for mercy" form, form 9465 with the return. Pay 1/10 with the return and the balance over next 11 months. Or sooner. If you are on extension for 2005, you would have until> what I owe and comes-a-knocking? Do I have time to get > things straightened out? October 16, 2006 to file the return. The IRS is not going to "come looking" for you before that filing date. If need be, you could file for an installment agreement to pay off the tax due. -- Ed Zollars, CPA Podcast located at http://ezollars.libsyn.com << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| I just found out I owe on my taxes. Not a huge amont, but more than what I typically make in a month. OK, I said to myself, My credit rating is good, I'll take out a small personal loan and pay off the feds. Then I found out there is a problem with my credit report which will take a bit to straighten out. I'm left with very few options to pay off what I owe right now. My question is this...how long before the IRS figures out what I owe and comes-a-knocking? Do I have time to get things straightened out? << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |
