Give it a couple of more weeks. You may have sent it to the
wrong address and it takes a little longer to get processed
if so. Wait till the next statement cycle comes out and if
it hasn't cashed through, contact the IRS via www.irs.gov
and click on "where's my refund" link or call
1-800-829-4477. In both cases have a copy of your 2005
return handy as you'll need some numbers from it.

Default Re: Delay in processing 1040's in Atlanta?

Since you filed on 4/15 along with several million other
taxpayers, it could be several things.

1. Your tax payment was lost by the US Postal Service while
being mailed to the IRS.

2. Your tax payment was received by the IRS but they lost it
or threw it away. it may have gotten stuck behind someone
else's tax return or fell behind the Tingle tables (desks
used to sort tax returns), it could have been stolen by an
IRS employee, it could have been posted as a payment on
someone else's tax account, or it could have been left in
the envelope and got thrown away.

3. The IRS will first process balance due tax returns, with
and without payments, in order to get money into the
Treasury without delay. Since your tax return was filed
along with millions of others and its only been a couple of
weeks, it may just be that they haven't gotten to yours just
yet.

Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and follow the prompts to get
a person to talk to. They can look up your account to see if
your tax return and payment have posted or are currently
being processed.

Not to worry, it can take up to 45 days to the Remittance
Processing department to catch up on the 4/15 deluge of
returns with remittances.

Default Delay in processing 1040's in Atlanta?

I just noticed IRS Atlanta has not cashed my 1040 bal due
check yet. The return with voucher was mailed 4/15. They
did cash my first 1040-ES payment (sent to different po box)
immediately, however. Think I should be concerned? Who
would I call to verify they received package?

TIA for any informed responses!
