Since when did CA care about the cost of collecting taxes?

If you have enough CA source income to create a tax
liability, you are legally required to file and pay the tax.
Actually, if your total gross income from all sources meets
the filing requirements, and you have CA source income, you
are legally required to file a return even if you have no
tax liability. However, there is no penalty for failing to
file if no tax is due.

Two days doesn't seem like enough to generate a tax, or if
it does, it is probably so small that it wouldn't justify
the state's cost to process a return. Of course if your
total salary is very high, you could have a significant
liability.

Default CA state income tax for a non-resident

I live in TX but worked 2 days in CA in 2005. According to
CA, I need to pay CA state income tax. Am I legally
required to file and pay this? What are the consequences to
me if I don't file and pay? Thanks! -MB
