You have no tax liability to CT as long as you do not live
there. Having your name on your mother's home in CT does not
make you a resident or a taxpayer there (unless you sell or
rent the house). You have a CT filing requirement for 2005
but will not for 2006.

If you had income from CT sources while residing in VA, VA
would tax the CT source income and allow you credit for the
tax you paid to CT, limited to the proportion of your VA tax
liability that related to that income.

Washington DC does not tax wages of nonresidents who work in
the District (due to restrictions in the Home Rule Act). So
you will not have a filing requirement in the District if
you are an employee. If you are an owner of a business
carried on in the District through a flowthrough entity such
as an S corporation, partnership, or LLC, that entity will
be subject to the District's unincorporated business tax.
The legality of that tax as applied to nonresident owners,
however, is currently under challenge.(Bender v. District of
Columbia , D.C. Super. Ct. (Tax Div.), Dkt. No. 8524-05,
03/08/2006). That decision will be appealed, and the
District's Department of Revenue advises taxpayers to go
ahead and file and pay their UBT and file protective claims
for refund pending resolution of the legal issues.

Default moved to va but own a home in ct

I moved to VA in december 2005 in order to start a new job
in Washington DC. Recently my aging Mother put her home in
CT into my name, so now I am the deeded owner. I visit
connecticut less than the 180 days per year to be considered
a resident. My question is will I have to pay state tax in
CT as well as VA? Will I need to pay any tax to Washington
DC?

Are there tax credits between these states, and if so how
does that work?

Thank you in advance,
Jim
