If I might ask, what is the significance of having two
columns? I ask since they are not labeled.

Your understanding was incorrect. You have taxable
compensation as reflected in Box 1 of your W-2. The
following FAQs at Florida State University explain the FWS
program.

Evidently you misunderstood. It's wages reported on line 7
of the 1040.

Default How do I designate Work Study income?

All of the money I earned this year was under various Work
Study programs as a graduate level student in the state of
Missouri. I understood that all of this money was to be
Federal Tax free. The income is reported on my W2. How do I
designate the income as Work Study income?

The specifics are:
Fed. community Service Work Study 1,638.12 196.00
Federal Work Study 21.54 3.00
Inst. Work Study 5,005.21 645.00
Totals 6,664.87 844.00

Thank you.
