Default Re: Father & step mother final return

If you file two Forms 1310, the IRS would have to issue two
refund checks, one to you and one to your stepmother's
daughter. Since the IRS computer system is not capable of
doing this automatically, the IRS would have to issue what
are called "manual" refunds, that is, someone manually
issues the refunds by filling out some internal IRS forms
that then get processed by the accounting group. this will
delay the refund checks by several weeks, possibly months.

I think it would be best if only one of you (probably you
since you are the son and personal representative of the
primary taxpayer) sign and file a single Form 1310 (since it
is a joint return) upon the agreement that you will then
split the refund amount with your stepmother's daughter.

Default Father & step mother final return

My father and his wife, not my mother, both died in Nov. 05.
Since both received SS and pensions, it is advantageous to
file a joint return and a refund would be due. Because both
died, it is my understanding that two forms 1310 must be
filed to receive the refund. My fathers wife also has
children. If I, as personal representative for my father
signs one form 1310 and his wife's daughter, as personal
representative for his wife signs the other, who is the
refund sent to? Can one of us sign both forms 1310 and
receive the refund as long as the other agrees and signs a
statement to that effecf? Does form 2848 have to be filed?

Thanks in advance for any help.
