You cannot use the same expense as a deduction or credit
under two different categories. Plain and simple, this
would be a violation of tax law.

Remember, the Hope credit is only available during the first
two years (freshman and sophomore years) of study toward a
post-secondary degree. After that, you must use the Lifetime
Learning Credit.

Default Education expense

I am perusing higher studies that will enhance my career in
my current job. Can I claim both Education expense (Hope
credit) as well as Job-related expense as deductions? I do
qualify for both individually, but please advice if I can
claim them together.
