If you pay the fees with money outside the retirement
accounts, you can deduct them as investment expenses. If
they're being paid with retirement account money, no.

If the "fees" are paid with funds INSIDE the retirement
account, they are NOT deductible on your Schedule A. If paid
from separate after-tax funds, they may be claimed as a
Miscellaneous Deduction (subject to 2% of AGI limits) on
Schedule A.

If you pay maintenance fees from non-IRA funds (which
doesn't count as a contribution) you can deduct them as
investment expenses on Schedule A.

You might want to do some shopping for better places to keep
your money.

Default Retirement account deductions.

I have several mutual funds in my retirement accounts. I
have not retired but seem to have considerable "fees" that
are ascribed to the care of these accounts. Most are through
Edward Jones. Are these considered custodial fees and can
they be used for itemized deductions.

Thank you,

Richard
