Old shoes? Don't you realize these are collectors' items?
In fact this pair was worn by Wilt Chamberlain's college
roommate's girlfriend's cousin's teacher's cleaning lady's
son. They should be worth a bundle!

Personally I'd copy that backside, highlight the IRS caveat,
and frame in on the office wall for "pointing to" purposes.
Probably just as handy and the sheets we hand out,
downloaded from the internet, from the Salvation Army on low
and high values for donated goods. Stops some inflated
ideas about old shoes..........

Default A novel piece of "advice"

Every year one or two clients want to deduct the 100$ ticket
they bought on an expensive new house, given away by the St
Jude's children's hospital in Memphis. And every year I
have to explain that raffle tickets are not deductible.

Today in a client's "stuff" was an actual ticket. Nowhere
on the face of it did it indicate "tax deductible". But on
the back among the 15 or more items, rules, caveats,
administrative pronouncements, was this: "IRS takes the
position that the price of this ticket is not deductible for
income tax purposes."

I'll leave it up to you to determine what they just might be
implying.
