Default Re: Amended 2005 return

When I worked for IRS, as an employee we have to have it
right or suffer the consequences which can be rather harsh
depending upon your position. I got a late 1099 from a bank
and had already filed. I amended the return and paid the
difference immediately, and it went through smoothly...I
think amending it now is the best way to handle it.

I would (and have done so in the past) send in the amount
that was on the e-filed return and wait about 6 weeks
(especially after the check clears) and then amend the
return and get a refund for the difference.

That's exactly what you do.

That's exactly what I would do and advise client to tear up
the coupon you already gave him to send in on April 14th.

Default Amended 2005 return

I have a 2005 return efiled and accepted for a client. The
client has a balance due which he plans to pay by April
15th. I have since found an error on the return which will
reduce his tax liability and balance due. Can I prepare and
have him file a 1040X by April 15th and pay the corrected
balance due? Thanks for any suggestions.
