| You can claim the cost of any software you purchased and/or any electronic filing fees on Sch A, subject to the 2% adjusted gross income "floor." Many times deductions which are, in theoy, deductible, end up not helping. Medical deductions, subject to a 7.5% floor end up not being usable for most people. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

Only your out-of-pocket costs (software, generally) and> Can I claim tax preparation fees if I did my own taxes ? If > so what to include and how much ? research materials. Not your time, of course. Deduction is taken as a Miscellaneous Deduction (subject to 2% of AGI limitations) on your Schedule A, so only provides a tax benefit if you itemize.

| I saw this question answered in misc.taxes. You can claim out of pocket expenses only (e.g. tax software purchased) but not for any labor that you did on your own.

| Yes, if you paid something in association with filing your taxes, such as software programs, electronic filing fees, etc. These are all deducted on Schedule A, miscellaneous expenses subject to 2% of AGI limit.

You can claim the cost of tax software that you used to> so what to include and how much ? prepare your return, books of tax advice, and any fees you paid for electronic filing. However, these are miscellaneous deductions subject to the 2% of AGI limitation. So they will not do you any good unless you have enough other deductions to push your total miscellaneous deductions over 2% of your AGI.
