Unless he is your dependent (see Pub 501) you do not qualify
for any educational deductions or credits.

Default Education Deduction Question

Can we (married filling jointly, less than $130,000 AGI)
take the tuition deduction (about $3000) for tuitions we
paid for out 20 yr. old son, who lives on his own (not in
our home)?

We pay his rent but he has a job that pays for his utilities
and personal expenses.

Thanks for any help.
