The Arizona method uses a percentage of federal withholding.
If you selected 29.4% then your employer should have
withheld 29.4% of your federal income tax withholding. Just
look at the federal amount withheld and make the comparison.
If it is not 29.4% then you need to have a discussion with
your employer's payroll department.

Default arizona tax withholding rate vs california

I just moved from California to Arizona and have a question
on my paycheck. I just received my first paycheck and was
surprised at the tax amount that was take out of my check.
I thought that my AZ state tax would be 5.04%. In CA it was
9%. On my form, I was asked to pick a % of up to 37%. I
selected 29% and had over $1000 taken from my check vs. $300
state income taxes in California.

I thought it would be less in AZ, can anyone help me out
with this?

thanks,
