| A lot of people know that the option to file for free by going to the IRS Web page is limited this filing season. Only taxpayers with adjusted gross incomes of $50,000 or less will be able to use one of the Alliance's partner programs. However, a lot of folks don't know that TaxAct Standard edition software is completely FREE to all taxpayers for federal income tax preparation, printing and e-file regardless of income limit. In order to file for free, higher-income taxpayers must go directly to TaxACT's Web site, not the IRS Free File page. Once at TaxACT, they can use the company's Web-based program or download it to their own computer. And yes, you read that right - even the E-FILE is FREE. (That's where many other "free" programs hook you. They let you prepare and print, but when you get ready to efile - oops! That costs! This one doesn't.) Here's the link: http://www.taxact.com/ (Note: I am in no way affiliated with this software or the company that makes it. I'm just a very thrifty girl that likes a good deal.)
