You may need to make estimated tax payments to NJ to avoid penalties. However, NJ will give you credit for the tax you pay to NY state on your salary, so unless you have significant income other than your salary, you may not owe much to NJ. As someone helpfully pointed out in another thread, NJ does not allow contributions to plans such as medical savings accounts, child care accounts, and certain other deductions to be subtracted from wages for NJ income tax purposes. So if you have any of those items, you may have to make adjustments for NJ. | I live in NJ but work in NYC. Half way through 2005 I changed jobs (both jobs were in NY). Company A has sent me W2 forms for both NY and NJ, while Company B only sent a NY form.
