| Your H1 visa is only for you to work here temporally. You apply for green card to pursue permanent employment here. That's obviously a personal expense. << ================================================== ===== > << The foregoing is intended for educational purposes only > << and does NOT constitute legal OR professional advice. > << > << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org. > << Copyright (2006) - All rights reserved. > << ================================================== ===== > |

| My question comes from reading pub529 {Unreimbursed Employee Expenses}. It says you can deduct unreimbursed legal fees related to your job. Because I have to get Green Card to keep my job, I am considering this legal expense as job related. What are your reasons they are not deductible? Thanks. Everyone knows, its just odd that someone would ask such anobvious question. They're not deductible. -- David M. | Need professional advice here, any reply is greatly appreciated. I am currently a resident alien on H1 VISA, in the process of applying for Green Card. I spent about $3500 legal fees for that last year. My question is, does that quality for job related deductible? If it does, what kind of proof do I need to claim that? Thanks a lot!
